UGA running back Carlton Thomas is set to transfer, this just released by UGA football team on the first day of spring practice in Athens. Reports by Dawgs24/7 and Seth Emerson, the senior running back, perhaps tired of competing with hot recruits and being oft injured and small performances, desires being more of an impact player.

In a statement released by Thomas, he says the following, from a Seth Emerson Tweet:
“@SethEmerson Thomas in a statement: “This decision was based solely on the fact that this is my last year to play … I want to make more of an impact.”

Thomas, a senior from Frostproof, FL,  played in 27 games with two starts. He leaves Georgia with 725 yards on 159 carries and four touchdowns. His biggest game came in a win last year against Auburn, when he rushed for 127 yards.  His leaving the team opens up competition at running back for sophomore and reigning SEC rookie of the year Isaiah Crowell, Richard Samuel and Ken Malcome. With the edition of five-star tailback Keith Marshall, who enrolled this spring to complete in spring practice, the back field perhaps got more competitive. Maybe March Richt knows what he’s doing.

A quote from Head Football Coach Mark Richt stated the following:

“Carlton came to me recently to discuss his thoughts. I understand his decision and appreciate all the contributions he’s made to our program. We wish him nothing but the very best in continuing his football career.”

Maybe you can step it up now, kid.

There is no word on where the senior will transfer. Spring practice began today with this news, and one month from the G-Day spring game.
