Don’t think that I have forgotten about you, sports fans! The Southern Fried Sports Girl has been getting her ass handed to her by UGA (Sort of like our football team against SEC opponents….OOOOH ROASTED!)

But, everyone pretty much knows how the Boys in Silver Britches have been playing, pretty hard but can’t finish or start on the best foot. Oh well…

But in baseball news, the Braves made the first major splashes in trading at the Winter Meetings this week, when last night they signed the switch-hitting, power hitting Second Baseman Dan Uggla for Omar Infante (an All-Star for an All-Star, please take note of that) and  rookie pitcher Mike Dunn, who was called up this past season from AAA-Gwinnett.

The Braves think that this will fill the void the team has in the outfield, considering many ideas. With the addition of Uggla, the Braves can put All Star Martin Prado in left field and (IF) my man Chipper Jones is back, he will resume at 3rd base, and Uggla would be the new everyday 2nd baseman. If Chipper is not ready, returning from knee surgery, Prado would be the everyday 3rd baseman and we would need to seek out a left fielder.

A star on a team who doesn’t seem to want All Stars, Dan Uggla is a beast offensively and defensively, and is only 30 years old. . An All Star, Gold Glove and Silver Slugger award winner at his position, had Uggla been a Brave a year ago, he would have led the team in home runs, on base percentage, slugging percentage and RBIs. His stats from last season were also career highs for him. He will be a welcomed addition to a batting order that sputtered to the end of the season and died in the playoffs. He also spent all of his major league seasons as a Marlin under the management of new Braves manager Freddi Gonzalez, so not the much of a change, just the uniform! Welcome to Atlanta, Dan!
